Privacy Policy

What we collect
- Account info: your email address, username, and a securely hashed password (we never store your plain-text password).
- Location data you choose to submit: the places you mark (“Flags”), the places you pin, and any custom locations you add.
- Content you create: reviews, ratings, photos, and notes attached to places.
- Social graph: your friend connections and @mentions.
- Payment details, handled by Stripe: we see whether your subscription is active, but never your full card details.
- Basic technical data needed to operate the service: session cookies, and IP address for abuse/rate-limiting purposes only.
- Your device also keeps a copy of some things the app has already downloaded, such as your friends' flag pictures, so they don't need downloading again. This stays in your browser and is never used for tracking.
What we don't do
- We don't run any third-party analytics or advertising scripts.
- We don't sell your data.
Who we share data with
We use a small number of trusted providers to run Rational Flag. Each only gets what it needs for its job:
- Stripe — takes subscription payments.
- Supabase — hosts our database, where your account and content are stored.
- Vercel — hosts the website and app.
- Sentry — receives error reports so we can find and fix bugs.
- Resend — sends our emails (verification, password resets and the optional monthly recap).
- Google Maps Platform — powers the map and place search.
- [Photo storage — confirm which provider stores uploaded photos (Supabase Storage or another S3-compatible service)]
Your content's visibility
Reviews and Flags you create default to visible to your friends, with a Private option you can choose per item. Your pins can be public (visible to your friends) or private. Removing a friend or making content private takes effect immediately.
Monthly recap email
If you switch on “Push ‘Last month’ to email” in Account, we'll email you a summary of the previous month on the 1st of each month: your own numbers and highlights from your friends. It's off unless you turn it on, and you can switch it off at any time.
Invite links
Your invite link (in Friends) identifies you as the person inviting. When someone signs up through it, the two of you become friends automatically, so they'll see what you share with your friends and you'll see what they share. Only send your link to people you're happy to be friends with.
Account deletion
You can permanently delete your account from Account → Delete Account. This removes your account, your personal profile data, and your flags, reviews, photos, pins and Plans, and cancels your subscription. Content tied to shared places (like a custom location you added) is kept but anonymized rather than deleted outright, so it doesn't break other users' Flags or pins anchored to that place.
